A BRIEF INTRODUCTION OF NACEF AND INTERNSHIP PROJECTNACEF ---- North American Chinese Educational Foundation (NACEF), located in the heart of Silicon Valley, is a nonprofit organization incorporated under the Nonprofit Public Benefit Corporation Law. NACEF is exclusively organized for educational and cultural exchange purposes between United States and China. NACEF works to facilitate and improve the international cultural, educational, economic and technical exchange by providing the most dependable channel navigating through the real China to the real United States as well as our real world. NACEF INTERNSHIP VOLUNTEER PROJECT ---- NACEF is expanding its international internship program by engaging volunteers from diverse ethnic backgrounds in promoting respect and understanding between people of different cultures. By placing volunteers as a English Teacher in Elementary/High Schools in China, NACEF aims to offer our volunteers better opportunities in dealing with future challenges through international experience and a better chance to discover China. NACEF Interns will get an in-depth view of the amazing history, culture, and society of this ancient civilization as it enters the 21st Century!This program will bring you fabulous MULTI-OPPORTUNITIES In today's multicultural, interconnected world, things change really fast. Internship work Descriptions This is a full-time position. The
interns are responsible for all aspects of elementary students' academic
development in English learning. This includes curriculum development, teaching,
and reporting on student progress. The most important aspect is classroom
teaching, which need interns to prepare lessons and design classroom instruction
well, to create a active, learner-centered atmosphere and meanwhile keep order
in classes and to coordinating with teacher Assistant harmoniously. Most schools at which interns will be teaching located in Wuhan which have nice surroundings, however NACEF is trying to expand the other cities and China. Your students’ ages range from 6 -16 and the class size usually is 40 students. The facilities are not extremely nice most of the time, but they serve their purpose. The school system is not as strict as people imagine and they are far from the dictatorial institutions that they have sometimes been made up to be. Interns are free to do pretty much whatever they feel is appropriate for teaching. Desired Requirements:
We expect you make an excellent job of initiating & fulfilling innovations in English Education & Elementary Education within Chinese culture JOB FUNCTIONExplain it simply, this project defines you, a qualified internship's job function as the following: "By carrying out classroom teaching and researches on curriculum & instruction, the internships help build an innovative, efficient elementary school English teaching-learning model adaptable to Chinese culture, which is the ultimate goal of our project." To elaborate it more concretely and in more details, the internships' work is composed of a number of units and follows several steps, as what showed in the "Internship Working Model" (see the next page): A. Before each semester begin, interns need to understand the nature of the courses and the textbook, the students' level and get acquainted with teaching assistants. Ensuring that every aspect of the above is addressed and then make teaching plans for the whole semester accordingly. B. During the semester, interns take three steps to carry on each lesson in a planned way. Step 1: Preparing lesson in co-ordination with TA. Step 2: Lecturing on the lesson. TA assist intern in classroom teaching and it is interns' duty to make the two sides cooperated harmoniously in the class. Step 3: Revising the lesson, critically evaluate the teaching-learning outcomes of this lesson and get prepared for the next lesson. C. Interns are highly suggested address the problems they experienced within the teaching-learning process and develop problem-solving strategies in intern's training courses and seminars. D. By the end of the semester, defining clearly the objectives of teaching in this semester and how it be evaluated, do self-evaluation and develop a personalized teaching model. YOUR CONCERNSHOW TO APPLY: Step One: Fill out application form and choose a program to participate (semester program or whole year program) indicated in the form. Pay $50 application process fee to NACEF, which is not refundable. Send complete form to NACEF for review. Step Two: NACEF process the application, inform applicants as soon as it takes. Usually at least two months before the class begins. Most applicants will get accepted as long as they meet the internship requirements. NACEF sign service agreement with accepted applicants. Accepted applicants make US $ 980 to NACEF for covering the round-trip international traveling and domestic airline fee to China upon signing agreement with NACEF. The round-trip airline fee will be refunded by selected school upon your completing internship service according to the agreement which signed between NACEF and internship participating elementary/high schools in China. NACEF will delivery airline tickets at least one month before the trip. PROGRAM SCHEDULE: The intern will be scheduled to arrive at elementary/high school where they are accepted to teach English one week before the class begin. A. Semester Program: March 1st, 2003 ------June 30th, 2003 Sept 1st, 2003--------Feb 1st, 2004
March 1st, 2003------ Feb 1st, 2004 VISA: Interns obtain a visiting (Fang Wen) Visa for six (6) months via the People’s Republic of China Embassy in the United States are expected to pay the processing charge (usually $30US). This process should only take 2 to 4 weeks but it can be longer. NACEF will provide assistance and relevant information necessary to facilitate you to obtain a visa once you are accepted by the Internship Project.AIRLINE TICKET: As long as you are accepted by this project and have got Visa, You are adviced to make US $ 980 to NACEF for airfare fee, then NACEF will provide the international round trip airline ticket from Los Angeles or San Francisco, CA, US to Beijing or Shanhai as well as a domestic connection to Wuhan, China. The airfare fee will be refunded upon intern complete the program. If you decide to stay Beijing or Shanhai for few days before you are placed in selected school, you have to pay for the expense it occur during your visit in those cities. RESIDENCE: The schools provide housing, which has multiple apartments normally consisted of one bedroom, a bathroom, a small living room and a kitchen. Washing machines, refrigerators and gas stoves are provided. Rent and reasonable utilities services will be paid for by school. EXPENCES OTHER THAN HOUSING Transportations: All travel expense for business while in China will be paid for by school. NACEF make every effort to ensure intern will be covered by school through our agreement with selected schools. Food and Other: Normally, food expense for each person per month in China is RMB 220 (local currency, RMB 8.20= US $1) NACEF officers in China will work with schools to gives interns a fix amount for food expense. If interns want to travel more and have money to spend on souvenirs or other items it is recommended they bring additional money with them.
